Answer each interview question aloud

Scenario
You have agreed to take part in a research study about weather, seasons and daily life. You will have a short online interview with a researcher. The researcher will ask you some questions.
Question 1
Thank you for joining me. I'm looking at how weather shapes people's routines. What is the weather generally like where you live?
Show a model answer
We get four fairly clear seasons, though the summers have become longer. Winters are cold and grey rather than snowy, and it rains a good deal in spring. Autumn is my favourite, because the light is soft and the parks are full of colour. Summer can be uncomfortable now in a way it wasn't when I was a child.
Question 2
How does the weather affect what you do day to day?
Show a model answer
It affects a surprising amount. In summer I get up earlier, because the middle of the day is too hot to do anything outside. In winter I cook more and see friends at home rather than in town. Rain changes how I travel, since I will take the bus rather than walk. I don't think about it consciously, but my whole routine shifts.
Question 3
Which season do you prefer, and why?
Show a model answer
Autumn, without much hesitation. The temperature is comfortable for walking, which is what I most like doing. There is also a sense of things starting again after the summer, which I find motivating. The days getting shorter is the one thing I don't enjoy.
Question 4
Have you noticed any changes in the weather over your lifetime? What do you make of them?
Show a model answer
Yes, and the clearest one is that hot spells last longer than they used to. When I was young a very hot week was unusual enough to talk about, and now it is expected. Winters also feel milder and wetter. I am not a scientist, so I hold my conclusions loosely, but the pattern is hard to ignore.
What a high-scoring response does
- Answers the question that was asked in the first sentence
- Supports it with a reason and a concrete example
- Keeps talking fluently for most of the 45 seconds
- Sounds natural: clear pronunciation, few long pauses
