About the TOEFL Announcement task
In the announcement task you hear a short spoken notice — the library changing its hours, a cafeteria closure, new gym equipment — and answer multiple-choice questions about it. Each set has one announcement, a couple of questions and 20 seconds per question.
Questions ask why the announcement is being made, the key details (dates, places, who is affected) and what listeners are asked to do. Announcements are short and dense, so a single missed detail can decide an answer.
Common mistakes: remembering the topic but not the change being announced, mixing up two times or places mentioned in passing, and forgetting the request at the end — that final instruction is a favourite question. Note three things: the purpose, the change and the action.
